UEFA has announced further changes to the Champions League format, set to take effect from the 2027-28 season. The new format will see the competition expand to 40 teams, with a revised league phase replacing the traditional group stage.
Under the new system, each team will play 10 matches in the league phase against 10 different opponents, determined by a seeding system based on historical performance and club coefficients.
The top 12 teams will advance directly to the Round of 16, while teams finishing 13th to 24th will enter a playoff round for the remaining four spots.
